Overview

Parenting Payment provides financial help for people who are primary carers of children, either as a parent, grandparent or foster carer. 

 

You may qualify for this payment if:

 

Ø  you are single and you care for at least one child aged under 8 years or,

 

Ø  you have a partner and you care for at least one child aged under 6 years.

 

Special provisions apply to children aged under 16 if you have been in receipt of Parenting Payment prior to 1 July 2006.  These special provisions will cease from 1 July 2013.

 

Parenting Payment is means tested.
